There’s a reason Airlie Beach is known as the hub of the Whitsundays. With so much to see, do and explore, the toughest thing will be fitting it all in.
Consisting of 74 islands dotted across sparkling azure seas, the Whitsundays are Australia’s aquatic playground. Explore national parks, luxury resorts, go fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving, enjoy a scenic flight and more. However you do paradise, there’s an activity for you, and it can all be booked through our in-park tour office.
Airlie Beach is a tropical, cosmopolitan hub, bustling with oceanfront restaurants, shops and a public swimming lagoon. Take a leisurely 20 minute stroll into town along the boardwalk, checking out Cannonvale Beach and Botanic Gardens, marina and boat ramp along the way.
A tropical getaway doesn’t mean your budget has to take a holiday, and there’s plenty to do in Airlie Beach that won’t cost a cent. Cannonvale Beach and Botanic Gardens offers multiple playgrounds, a skate park, basketball court and BBQs. Stroll along the Bicentennial Boardwalk or sweat it out on a hike up to Honeyeater Lookout.
State and national parks make up much of the Whitsunday Islands and coastline, with plenty of walks to enjoy. There’s the Whitsunday Great Walk, a challenging 28km trek with stunning scenic views. Or, try the Ngaro Sea Trail, following in the footsteps of the Ngaro people, the Whitsundays’ first locals. There are also plenty of shorter walks, like the Coral Beach walk down near Shute Harbour.
