Dare to disconnect at NRMA’S award-winning Port Macquarie Holiday Park

Thursday, 21 November 2019

NRMA’s Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park is daring guests to disconnect from devices and reconnect with family in a first-of-its-kind digital detox holiday challenge.

The award-winning holiday park took home gold in the 2019 NSW Tourism Awards last week for its leadership in innovation, unique local experiences and world class customer service with the park’s latest innovation coming just in time for the summer school holidays.

In an Australian first, guests are encouraged to turn-off and lock up their phones in secure Yondr pouches that can only be unlocked by a device at reception, giving them the gift of uninterrupted family time.

NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park Manager Dawn Marchment said she is passionate about helping guests unplug and achieve a sense of balance in their busy lives.

“Giving guests the gift of going phone-free for an hour or 24 hours out of their holiday allows them an opportunity to really experience the moment without the distractions that can distance us from our loved ones and our surroundings,” Ms Marchment said.

“Our award-winning park is the ideal base to explore the coastal town of Port Macquarie. Guests can spend their time discovering pristine beaches, walking through rainforests, riding along rivers and waterways or dining in the many exceptional cafes and restaurants.”

To help guests make the most of their time, Ms Marchment and her team provide local insights of things to do in the region, inspiring guests to try staff recommendations and removing the need to research attractions, creating more time for guests to enjoy.

“Our personal philosophy is to work together to create memorable holiday experiences for our guests. The park is an extension of our home and we treat our guests as family so we want everyone to feel that sense of heart-felt connection and interaction.

“Clearly there’s a time and a place for technology but we want to encourage people to know when and where that is. Our digital detox promises to nurture your inner child, recharge and relax your body, motivate your mind and awaken what’s possible,” Ms Marchment said.

NRMA Parks and Resorts CEO Paul Davies said it’s this focus on families, innovation and the delivery of quality products and services that has seen NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park win gold at the 2019 NSW Tourism Awards for best Caravan and Holiday Park last week.

“Tourism is vital to our regional economy and to be recognised at the NSW Tourism Awards is an outstanding achievement we are very proud of. Dawn and her team demonstrate an excitement and passion that is contagious, making their unique offerings unforgettable for families.

“This latest wellness-inspired innovation drive is just another example of NRMA Parks & Resorts pushing the boundaries with new ideas for product development and customer satisfaction to ensure every guest has an exceptional holiday experience,” said Mr Davies.

NRMA Parks and Resorts also claimed gold at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards last week for its NRMA Port Arthur Holiday Park for the third year in a row, and the NRMA managed RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort in WA picked up silver in the WA Tourism Awards.
