Connect with nature
Start your day off right and make the most of the pristine natural surrounds by watching the sunrise from the deck of your accommodation. Not only will you wake up to spectacular views and complete serenity but the national park setting means you’ll often share your holiday with native wildlife. Kangaroos, dolphins, diverse birdlife and even whales can often be spotted from the park and the surrounding area.
After this moment of quiet bliss, strap up your hiking boots and hit one of the many walking trails that await, ranging in distance and grade. For an easy trail ideal for kids, start out on the 400m Depot Beach Rainforest Walk which takes you through the rainforest to the beach before looping back around. Or discover more of the Murramarang national park and nearby Durras Lake on the Durras Lake Discovery Trail. This family-friendly walk is 1.5km and its highlights include fantastic bird watching and heritage sites.
For a more secluded spot take a stroll along Acheron Ledge Walking Track, where you’ll find a remote beach with great rock fishing. Pack lunch and enjoy the Wasp Head Picnic Area before letting the little ones try their luck catching a fish.
If lying in the sun with a good book is more your holiday style, enjoy the morning’s warmth on the sandy shoreline of Beagle Bay. More often than not you’ll be joined by a pod of dolphins swimming along the beachfront. For other nearby stretches of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters make sure to visit Mill Beach, located directly in front of the holiday resort, Cookies Beach, and Emily Miller Beach.
For natural attractions, visit Wasp Head and Pebbly Beach rock formations. Unique to the area, the large sandstone formations are set against a stunning coastal backdrop making them the perfect spot for a photo op. The best time to visit? We recommend sunrise or sunset to enjoy the formations’ spectacular golden hues.
